Written by Sleeping Giant Capital | 06/3/2026

Derrick and I were honored to be named Crain’s Michigan 2025 Newsmakers of the Year, alongside Lions Coach Dan Campbell.

That is not a sentence we expected to write.

We are grateful for the recognition, and for the additional momentum following Sleeping Giant Capital’s Crain’s M&A Dealmaker of the Year award for our $100 million fundraise.

Both recognitions help bring more attention to our mission: preserving and growing the next generation of businesses in West Michigan.

Highlights of this issue:

  • CEO-in-Residence Mitch Brownell assumes President role
  • CEO-in-Residence spotlight on Phil Bowman
  • Co-CEOs, Ben Greve and Rick Slater, in the latest episode of The Do Diligence Podcast
  • Sleeping Giant hosts Leading Ladies of Kalamazoo

We hope to hear from you soon,

Sleeping Giant Hosts Leading Ladies of Kalamazoo

Sleeping Giant Acquire graduate and Pondera Advisors CEO, Kelly Conway, recently joined Huntington Bank’s Leading Ladies for a panel discussion at our office in downtown Kalamazoo.

Leading Ladies is an initiative designed to bring professional women together to connect, grow, and champion one another as leaders. Having these great women leaders in our office also gave us an opportunity to introduce them to owner-operator paths offered through our Acquire and CEO-in-Residence programs.
